CMOD V9 support for 128 meta fields.
« on: February 26, 2013, 07:54:03 AM »
Hi

CMOD V9 has support for 128 meta fields.
I thought 32 fields (V8.5) are more than enough to actually uniquely identify a document.

In your installations, what is the maximun number of fields used?
Any idea why IBM thought of increasing the limit to 128?

Thanks
Pankaj.

Hello Pankaj,

Well it is since version 8.5.0.4 that 128 fields are available to CMOD :-D

Why? Because you have no idea how creative the customers are :-D they want to store lots of data in the fields! We try to cool them down :-) and not add things like birthday!!!

During a migration, were the business couldn't decide what to keep and what not, and they had new fields for their new system, so added them together with the old data... meaning that had more than 32 fields, something like 34 or 36.

Sincerely yours,
Alessandro

Some companies have a specific 'nomenclature' for identifying documents, and that requires a specific (and large) number of fields.

I had one customer with 26 different fields for each invoice -- and the first 10 fields were all the same value, stored millions of times.  They eventually changed their minds about that when they started having to pay for more and more disk space for their database.

It often takes some time for management types to realize that CMOD is not a data warehouse app.  ;)
