Variable Line Data
« on: September 22, 2015, 07:47:29 AM »
Hi All,
90% of all of our applications are Fixed line data.   However, we have 10% that come through as Variable.  As a result, they fail because the record lengths do not match up.   I've tried changing the application parameters from Fixed to Variable and retesting/loading, but they continue to fail.   Is there something I am missing?  Thanks!  Michelle

There's a possibility that the file is being modified on it's way to you.  I've had this happen recently, in that a mainframe report was being converted to ASCII by the file transfer utility as the file was in transit.  It converted fixed length reports to 'stream' data with Hex '0A' line ending characters.

What are you using as a line ending character?  Are you loading in EBCDIC, or ASCII?  What's your OS & version of CMOD?

Hmmm... didnt know that.   Thanks!   Will have another look at this.

We are loading EBCDIC.  CMOD version is 9.0.0.3.  And by OS, I'm guessing your asking where the reports are coming from?  RMS on the mainframe.   I will have to check on the line ending character and get back with you.

On another note, the link to the IBM messages and codes is very useful.   I'm still looking through it.   Thanks!
