Does OnDemand supports Linux Virtual Box
« on: February 10, 2016, 06:41:12 AM »
Hi All,

Can any one let me know whether the OnDemand application server runs without any issue on Virtual Box. If so are there any pre-requisites for using OnDemand application on Virtual Box. Do we get any performance difference when compare with Physical & Virtual box if so please let me know to check the performance of OnDemand application server.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

yes of course, you can use VMWare, Virtualbox, whateverbox... they all work.

Concerning performance, it depends on how much resources you put on you VM, if you use SSD disk or not, if you put 1GB of RAM or 128GB.
If you put 50% of a CPU, or 32CPU.

CMOD's requirement is for the operating system -- as long as the OS runs properly inside your VM solution, it'll work.

Thank you Alessandro & JBNC for your confirmation.

As we have 16 GB of RAM and as per Unix team confirmation the utilization of cpu is between 20-40%.

Hope OnDemand will work on Virtual Box.

Are there any pre-requisites for doing OnDemand installation on Linux Virtual box. if so can you please provide me concern link to go through it.

Rajesh,

as JBNC said, as long as the Linux you are using is supported by OnDemand, it is not important if you use VirtualBox, VMWare, Parallel, etc...

You will simply install OnDemand according to the OnDemand installation guide, and that's it.

There is nothing special about VirtualBox that you must absolutely do something special... That means, there are no special instruction.
