Document List columns

(1/1)

PBastien:
Hi,

  Here is a simple question:

Is there a way to set default sizes to the columns in the Document List box? We had to define our fields longer than they actually are so as to be compliant with the federated search standards in our company, thus rendering the columns much too wide for our purposes. It is getting real bothersome to manually resize the columns manually everytime we open the client.

Any ideas are welcome.

We are running CMOD on an AIX Server and Windows Client v.7.1.2.8.

Thanks
Pat

Under the options tab this is a menu item called set doc list autosize. This will allow the user based on a report sampling to adjust the with of the columns in the hit list.

PBastien:
Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't work for us since our fields are padded with blanks.

ie: field DocumentClass contains a 3 character code but is defined with a width of 25. Using the Autosize feature sets the column width at 25 characters. We would like to set the width to contain 3 characters only...

Carol Allen:
Hi, Document List Column autosize is great, but it will only work for you if you can change your 25-character field to use a variable length instead of a fixed length.  As you said, you have 3 characters and then blanks, which are still considered valid characters.  You can't change the field type in the existing application group, but maybe you can rename the app group, copy it to a new app group (with the original name, and change to a variable length field in the copy process), then join both app groups together in the folder.  Over time the users would see the narrow columns, as they change the date search range and see just recent documents.  Or, of course, if you haven't archived too much data, you could start over with this app group.
