MP Server / Re: Error Creating Instance using Oracle
« on: October 01, 2021, 06:27:57 AM »
Problem resolved.  As we suspected it was an Oracle issue.  Specifically, there was not sufficient permissions granted to the tnsnames.ora file.  The Oracle admin opened up the permissions to the file and the CMDOD arsdb command worked like expected.

Thanks,
Joe

Sure,  Here are the content of the ars.ini file:  I welcome any suggestions, especially if they help solve the problem.  This is basically identical to the QA server we have operational.  We just replaced ondq with ondp on several rows.

MP Server / Error Creating Instance using Oracle
« on: September 24, 2021, 12:23:46 PM »
We have successfully installed and tested an identical QA Server (Instance = ondq) and we are now trying to replicate the process (following IBM Installation manual) to install and configure the PROD server (Instance = ondp).   It is:
RHELinux
Oracle v.19.10.0
CMOD v.10.5

The product installs successfully.  We compared these files to match the setting on QA but changing ondq to ondp:
/opt/ibm/ondemand/V10.5/config/ars.cfg
/opt/ibm/ondemand/V10.5/config/ars.ini
/opt/ibm/ondemand/V10.5/config/ars.dbfs

We get the following error when running the command:  arsdb -I ondp -rtv

[ondp@ause2ldaondp001 config]$ /opt/ibm/ondemand/V10.5/bin/arsdb -I ondp -rtv

ARS4054E DB Error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified -- SQLSTATE=, SQLCODE=12154
ARS4023E Unable to connect to ORACLE ondp database

Our Oracle administrator seems to think that the Oracle database on ondp is configured the same as ondq...

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this error or what else to check or resolve this?

Thanks,
Joe

MP Server / Re: Doc by doc extract of AFP's
« on: September 21, 2021, 08:40:58 AM »
Each row in my parameter file had the following parameters:
[-c] [-g] [-d /path/to/store/file] [-o uniquename] [-G AppGroupName] [-X 5517-1-0-6029FAA-20161026000000-20161026000000-5518]

-d is the directory to store the .OUT and .IND files
-o is a unique identifier I assigned from my program that built the parameter file

For a large migration, I was putting up to 1,000 rows per file.

I hope this helps.

I had a similar situation of needing to unload many files for a migration.  Instead of making many individual calls to ARSDOC Get that each require a logon, I first created a parameter file that contains -X LoadID references to all of the files I wanted to extract, then performed a single ARSDOC Get that referenced the parameter file.  This was much faster because it only performs a single logon for all of the records in the parameter file.  (I'm not sure this will work in your situation because you are not extracting by LoadId, but it may be worth looking at as an alternative).

I identified the issue causing my ARS4305E error:

My Generic indexer files were not following the proper naming convention.  Once I created a set of 3 files with the general naming convention of
IGN.IGN.APPGROUPNAME.APPNAME.0.0.ard.ind
IGN.IGN.APPGROUPNAME.APPNAME.0.0.ard.out
IGN.IGN.APPGROUPNAME.APPNAME.0.0.ard
where I replace the IGN with values to make each set of filenames unique.

It seems that I was not including .ard as part of all three file names.  Anyway, it seems to be loading now...

Thanks,
Joe

Lars,

You're answer was very helpful.  I saw on the OnDemand Configurator tool in the description of the Application Group name section the sentence:  'A typical report name should look like MVS.JOBNAME.DATASET.FORMS.*.*.EXT.'

It appears that the two .*.*. locations at the end of the file name are REQUIRED.  I used the radio button selection for DATASET to get my selection.

I also had to create a new filename with the .ARD extension so that the job would pick up the file.

I have one remaining issue:  The Application is defined for the Generic Indexer.  I have a .IND file in the same C:\arsload path as the .ARD file with the exact same name except the extension is  .ind
I get a message 88 in my System log folder with

ARS4305E Generic indexer requires the data to have already been indexed.  Index the data or verify your input file and resubmit the job.

I feel like I'm getting CLOSER....

MP Server / Re: arssockd not starting on New RHEL Server
« on: September 03, 2021, 11:34:52 AM »
Thanks everyone for the very helpful posts.

I actually set up the strace suggested by Ed.  It quickly became clear that when setting permissions on the various directories we overlooked the /Cache directory.  Once we updated the permissions per the OnDemand v.10.5 Installation manual the Instance started right up without issue.

It might be nice in a future release to get this information in a message back from the arssockd command instead of relying on a strace.

Thanks again,
Joe

MP Server / arssockd not starting on New RHEL Server
« on: August 27, 2021, 09:19:39 AM »
I am installing a new OnDemand v.10.5 server on RHEL v.7.9 with an Oracle v.19 database. There is no TSM or SSL requirements. We plan to use LDAP but do not have this configured yet.

The software seems to be successfully installed and the arsdb command ran successfully to create an instance called ondq (this will be the QA Server).  I have been able to run the commands to create the System Log and System Load files.  I think this next step is to try to start the server job.  When I run either of these commands I get NO response.  I just get returned quickly with a command prompt:

./arssockd ondq arssockd
or
arssockd -S -I ondq

I can not find any new log files being created with any information to go on.

I feel like I'm missing something simple??  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

I am installing a new OnDemand Windows v.10.5 server and I am testing the archive.  I have successfully loaded a file (exported from another system) using the following command from the OnDemand Command Window:

arsload -v -f -e -n -I ARCHIVE -g INVOICE C:\Downloads\TEST1.0.INVOICE.INVOICE

It stores all 305 documents referenced in the .IND file and .OUT file.

My 2 issues are when I try to load the SAME file using the Windows service as configured using the OnDemand Configurator tool:

The service job that is:
arsload.exe -I ARCHIVE -t 60 -c "C:\arstmp" -G DATASET -d "C:\arsload"

Issue 1:  No matter what parameter I define as the -G value the program appears to try to use the FIRST value in the filename (TEST1) a the Application Group.   I need it to be the third or fourth value.

Issue 2:  I changed the file names to replace TEST1 with INVOICE.  It appears to process the file assigning INVOICE to the Application Group.  But The message 88 error in the system log has an ARS4309E Indexing failed

The same file manually loaded successfully, so I think the .IND values should be all good.

Any ideas on Issue 1 or 2 are appreciated.

Joe

Lars,

Your comment was very helpful.  It made me realize that the ARSLOAD service automatically uses the UserID used when creating the Instance.  I had not yet defined this UserID to the OnDemand Admin Client as an Administrator.  Once I did this the Load Data Service in OnDemand Configurator Created and Started without issue.

Thanks,
Joe

As I mentioned, this is not an issue with the newer Windows 10 builds being currently deployed.  I do not know whether this this is due to a change in Windows patch behavior or they way the tech departments creates their generic Windows builds.
I am documenting my experience here for anyone else who may encounter this behavior. I believe a PMR was opened with IBM and were told that it was a customer environment issue to figure out.

We found this to be an issue that only affected older Windows 10 builds in the environment.  This problem was caused and fixed by changing a setting DEEP in Windows Defender.  It is found by:
Open Windows Defender | Select Exploit Protection Settings
Change the setting for 'High-entropy ASLR' from "On by default" to "Off by default".

Someone smarter than me may know why this setting when set to "on by default" causes the AFP Client Window to close within a second or two of opening and displaying the document

Stupid questions - Where would I check the server name that OnDemand is trying to use?  To see if it matches the FQDN of the server.

I am trying to install a new OnDemand v.10.5 server with DB2 on a Windows 2016 Server.  I have a single Instance called ARCHIVE.  The Instance Starts and the LibSvr Service is running.  I can logon as Admin to the Windows Client and Admin Client.  I have imported App Groups, Apps and Folders from another v.10.5 system.  I can start the run the Scheduler Service.

BUT, I can not get the Load Data Service to start.  Each time I try I get the same error message:
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
I also get an error in the arssock.err file:
"OnDemand(1563) -> getaddrinfo.errno = 11001 rc = 11001"

I tried running arsload to store a single file and I get:
"ARS1106E Connection cannot be established for the >ARCHIVE< server"

It feels like I overlooked something in the installation process, maybe?
I'm much more familiar with OnDemand for iSeries and OnDemand Windows is sort of new to me.

Thanks for any advice.

Joe
