Report Indexing / Re: Converting from OS/390 to ACIF Indexer
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:13:56 PM »
Hi John - PK74886 is the level of ACIF you're calling right now, hence the message:  ACIF AT PK74886 HAS COMPLETED ABNORMALLY WITH RETURN CODE 16.

PK74886 is a problem identifier, which on z/OS maps to PTF (for fix) UK41729.   So that's the service you currently have on the ACIF you're calling.

I know that UK41729 is PE, which means it's a PTF in Error - a defect was found in it after it was released.

The problem identifier for that is PK92298, andthe PTF (or fix) for that problem on z/OS is UK50893.

If you're running ACIF on z/OS, then your support team should install UK50893 for you.

If you're running ACIF on some other software platform, then I'm out of my element.

Report Indexing / ACIF AT PK74886 ...

I've only glanced at this, but I don't like the fact that PK74886 is PE.

PK92298  PEAPAR of UK41729

« on: April 01, 2011, 07:33:30 AM »
Hmmm:

00C900D1

Explanation

The amount of space allowed for processing LOB values by a user has been exceeded. The amount of space allowed per user is indicated by panel DSNTIPD.
System action

The operation is not allowed. DB2? returns "resource not available" to its invoker.

System programmer response

If possible, increase the value of subsystem parameter LOBVALA.

Problem determination

The requested operation is not performed. An SQLCODE -904 is issued. Message DSNT500I or message DSNT501I might also be issued.
Collect the following diagnostic items:

    Console output from the system on which the job was run, and a listing of the SYSLOG data set for the period of time spanning the failure.
    SVC dump (or system dump), taken to SYS1.DUMPxx data set, as result of an operator-initiated dump command or SLIP trap exit.
    Listing of SYS1.LOGREC data set, obtained by executing IFCEREP1.

FYI - It's pretty common knowledge that DB2 V9 is a pre-req for CMOD 8.5, but I see that per the Program Directory z/OS 1.11 is also a pre-req.

Tips and Tricks / Validating Cache Storage
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:34:14 AM »
arsmaint can be run with the following parm:

Quote
-v
    Validates cache storage. When you specify this option, the ARSMAINT program inspects all cache storage file systems to make sure that they are correctly linked with the proper file permissions.

I run it in batch on z/OS with the following JCL:

//TMP1  EXEC  PGM=IKJEFT01,
//            DYNAMNBR=200
//SYSPROC  DD  DSN=SYS1.SBPXEXEC,DISP=SHR
//*
//SYSTSPRT DD  SYSOUT=*
//*
//SYSTSIN  DD  *
 oshell /usr/lpp/ars/V8R4M0/bin/arsmaint -v -I ARCHIVE
//*

Note:  on z/OS at least - the output does not go in the job.  Rather the output will show up in the ARSSOCKD started task.

If there is no problem, there is no output.

If there is, you can expect to see a message like this in the JESMSGLG:

ARS0198E ARSMAINT INVALID OWNERSHIP AND/OR PERMISSIONS ON CACHE FILE
/DIRECTORY >/ARS2<  SRVR->MAGENTA.ZOS.FOO.COM 9.29.129.129<-

Warning - can be rather I/O intensive, try it on a test system first or run it off-shift.

Other / Re: Is anyone using the ARSSOCK=/tmp/arssock.dbg command
« on: March 01, 2011, 01:09:46 PM »
This is from my notes:

Quote
ARSSOCK=hfs file name
is an optional parameter that can be specified in the ars.cfg file.
Specifying this parameter results in more verbose logging of connection
messages written to the hfs file name.

Looks like it's only connection messages but I wouldn't swear to it.

I know this reply is probably too late but IVP #3 on z/OS uses AFP data.

How easy would it be for you to go ahead and install that PTF?

I have a nephew who is a veterinarian who always says, "Couldn't hurt, might help."   ;D

Hakan - are you running arsload NOTCPIP?

No guarantees on this, but if you are, please install PM24351.

PM24351 fixes a serialization problem in a SYSPLEX environment.

Besides fixing the lack of serialization when manipulating cache files, it also fixes the lack of serialization when getting a new segment for an applgrp.
