MP Server / Re: Permanent retention
« on: November 05, 2010, 07:27:06 AM »
The 'hold' Checkbox is for Enhanced Retention Management.  It's a separately purchased product that allows you to create 'holds' on individual (or groups) of documents for various business reasons (court case, fraud investigations, etc.).

I would love to point you to some documentation, but it's not clear where the Enhanced Retention Management documentation is.  I'll ask IBM and reply later.

You could ask Hakan directly -- his User ID on the forum is hakan_carlberg.  You can send him a message by clicking on 'My Messages' from the menu and then 'New Message' from the left-hand menu.

I'd recommend that you only run this while CMOD is down -- but DB2 needs to be up.

MP Server / Re: TSM and CMOD - how they are related?

It may simply not be in your path.

Try /opt/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmadmc or /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmadmc.

Hi.

That's a BIG question -- let's see if I can keep this simple and straightforward.

TSM is used for it's archive functionality.  TSM will accept and hold a file for as long as the configured policy tells it to.

A CMOD Storage Set is connected to a TSM Node, and that TSM Node belongs to a Policy Domain, which largely defines how long a document will be kept, and where.

The 'Where' is defined at the lowest level by a deviceclass, which belongs to a storagepool, which is defined in a copygroup, which belongs to a management class.

The deviceclass will determine which type of device the data is stored on.  A 'File' deviceclass will put the data in files on filesystems.  An optical or tape deviceclass enables TSM to store data on optical libraries or tape.

You would determine this my logging into TSM's Admin Console (you may have a GUI, but I prefer the command line).  On all platforms I'm familiar with, the command is the same:  "dsmadmc"  (_D_istributed _S_torage _M_anager _ADM_in _C_onsole)

Grab a pen and paper to make notes, but you'll want to run commands like this inside admadmc:
q node
q domain
q policy
q mgmt
   ... etc ...

You can get more information on any of these queries by adding "format=detailed" or simply "f=d" at the end.

For a list of ALL the things you can query, "help query".

To exit, "quit".

Good luck!

MP Server / Re: how to copy data from one cmod environment to another
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:56:22 AM »
Once you've got the documents extracted, you can override the indexer settings in the Application by using the command line option -X G  (inde_X_er, _G_eneric).  This uses the .ind file generated by arsdoc, instead of trying to re-index the documents you've output.

Since you already have the indexes for the documents (and you won't have to search the file for them) the load should be relatively fast.

Good luck!

You can use 'arsdoc get' to extract data from the server, then use arsload to load it to the new one.  You'll want to use the generic index options during extract and load.  Good luck!

With the Multiplatforms versions of arsdb, you also have the "-f" parameter to 'force' the action, and ignore any errors along the way.  You might get further with that, but please inspect your output files!

MP Server / Re: 8.4.1 System Load Application Group
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:54:24 AM »
Hi Walt.

The way I look at the System Load AG is -- if enabling it is going to bring down your server and processes and timelines -- you probably have bigger problems to be worrying about.  :)

The impact of collecting a little more data and inserting an extra couple of rows into a database table shouldn't be cause for great concern.

Hi Russel.

Sounds like you need to use an output exit.  Are you loading EBCDIC text, and need it converted to ASCII for display on PCs?

MP Server / Re: Delete AG with no data, when OD thinks it has data
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:52:51 AM »
The solution really depends on how important it is to find out WHY you're seeing the discrepancy.

If it's VERY important to find out why there is a 1-record discrepancy, then you'll need to examine your System Logs and try to determine where the problem is.

If it's NOT important, just delete the Application Group.  If you confirm that you want to delete it, it will delete the AG, and there's no reason to worry about it.

z/OS Server / Re: Creating "Stacked" PDF out of Exstream
« on: October 09, 2010, 07:04:31 AM »
Hi Alessandro...

I think the situation that Corrine is trying to describe is:
   File.pdf (  Pg1  Pg2  Pg3 ... )
... where the individual pages are documents that should be able to be retrieved separately.

And *not* a series of complete PDF files, simply concatenated into a single file:
   AllPDFs.out ( [Pg1.pdf] [Pg2.pdf] [Pg3.pdf] [...] )

...which is why the Generic Index won't work.

Corrine -- can you clarify this for us?

MP Server / Re: Concurrent Users (ARSSOCKD)
« on: October 09, 2010, 06:57:14 AM »
Just as an FYI, concurrent users are an outdated licensing model.  Content Manager OnDemand uses a 'per seat' combined with 'population' (if applicable) based pricing now, so that number is less useful than it might seem.  Additionally, as I understand it, a concurrent user was calculated as someone who had logged in, had not logged off, and had been active in the last 30 minutes.

At the company I used to work for, this was a problem because at a shift change in the call centre, you might get 200 to 250 users logging on within half an hour -- skewing the maximum number of users (and therefore our license costs).

If you want a better understanding of actual usage, look in the OnDemand System Log for number of queries or retrievals in any given hour.

Documentation / Re: Excel & arsdate
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:15:47 AM »
Of course, IBM's official answer to this question is that querying arsdate is the ONLY true method of calculating the 'arsdate' value, which is a good answer when it's feasible.

The basic function is number of seconds since midnight January 1st, 1970, divided by 86400 (ie, the number of seconds in a day).
You must perform your own time-zone calculations, and there is no accommodation for leap-seconds as far as I know.

Good luck -- and please share your solution!
