Whats the actual benefit of installing as a non-root user? Not having to bug your system admins?

I think there is some confusion on my end.

The new feature that was added to 9.5 was to INSTALL/CONFIGURE ondemand as a non-root user.

Does the install of odwek in Windows create/update/depend upon registry entries? Or it is simply an msi file that gets run?

Nope, you need to use the full installer, and then only configure the components you need.

Does this mean that I need to install CMOD for windows/linux, and grab the correct files that I need to hand over?

In version 9.5 for CMOD the ODWEK or OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is now bundled or included with the full install. Is there any way just to download \ install the ODWEK for the different platforms (windows, Linux, aix) without going through the full install?

After reading through this link (http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPCD_9.5.0/com.ibm.ondemandtoc.doc/redbooks.htm ) I have found another link to a redbook describing the ODWEK platforms and install. Only chapter 12 talks about the install for the windows environment. See Referenced HTML Version of Redbook below.

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG246338/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

The end goal I am trying to accomplish is to supply the internal web team with the necessary files to install and use the odwek for (AIX, windows, and linux).

MP Server / More 9.5 install questions
« on: May 23, 2016, 12:17:15 PM »
So I've successfully upgraded  from 8.5.0.6 and I am running 9.0.0.7. I am in the process of upgrading to 9.5.0.5.

I chose a different user for this "admin" and ran though the whole installation process--

./odaix.bin -i console     <--successfully ran
fixpack 9.0.0.5               <--successfully ran
'
I then logged in as admin and attempted to run the commands to configure the "archive" database:

devel:/home/admin/IBM/ondemand/V9.5/bin>arsdb -I archive -efv
arsdb:  ARS4014E Unable to load >DB2<
Illegal instruction(coredump)

I then did some digging and ran slibclean, db2ln, and also installed Rational, XL C++ Runtime (13.1.3.1, AIX) (All three of these I could NOT find in the documentation. All three looked good.

Now here is the error I am getting:

arsdb:  ARS4014E Unable to load >DB2<
Illegal instruction

I then tried running arsdb -efv per documentation:

development:/home/admin>cd IBM/ondemand/V9.5/bin/
development:/home/admin/IBM/ondemand/V9.5/bin>arsdb -I archive -efv

MP Server / Install/Configure as non root user
« on: May 12, 2016, 07:25:06 AM »
Greetings all,

I'm in the process of upgrading to 9.5 from 9.0.0.7 and I want to take advantage of the one new feature I've read about, but I can't seem to find the right documentation about it. I've read about (and heard at IBM road shows) about installing/configuring/running CMOD as a non-root user (such as ODADMIN, Admin, etc)

Correct me if I am wrong, but are these steps correct?:

1) Install CMOD as root
2) Configure CMOD (arsdb/arssycr, etc..) as root
3) Run ARSSOCKD as whatever user I would like

Am I right, or completely wrong? Thanks in advance as always folks!

checked that, looks good.

uid=0(root) gid=0(system) groups=996(db2util),1501(dbasys),993(sysadm),214(dbsysadm),991(sysadm1)

No JD I didn't that's my bad. I should have combined them.

I am trying to create an environment that mimics prod:

[@SRV@_ARCHIVE]
HOST=
PROTOCOL=2
PORT=0
SRVR_INSTANCE=ARCHIVE
SRVR_INSTANCE_OWNER=root

is what I am using in the ars.ini

btw- I started over and raised a PMR

MP Server / New install, new issue (8.5.0.0 - 8.5.0.6)
« on: April 14, 2016, 02:36:16 PM »
So I am building a lab environment running older versions of CMOD to anticipate an upgrade and going right to 8.5.0.0 gave me headaches with security issues. I ran the 8.5.0.6 binary and it completed OK. I am now getting this error when I run:

/usr/lpp/ars/bin/arsdb -I archive -cvf

[root@labbox:/usr/lpp/ars/bin]# ./arsdb -I archive -cvf
arsdb:  Unable to load >DB2<
Creating the DB2 archive database
Illegal instruction(coredump)

Does anyone have any ideas? Also I am using RDF in production and I would like to mimic the environments as much as possible, so are there any special flags that I need to include?

Thanks in advance.

Unable to start database archive.  SQLCODE = -1092

Still a file/user permissions issue.  :)

-JD.

JD- and this can cause this error when trying to run ARSDB?

MP Server / arsdb error on fresh install
« on: April 12, 2016, 06:02:32 AM »
I am creating a sandbox enviroment running 8.5 CMOD and 9.5 DB2...I know, old!

Installed db2
Created user archive, gave admin permissions
I created the instance archive, owner as root
I created the db archive
I activated the db
I verified I could connect to the db archive

when I go to run arsdbI get the following error: **********typo

arsdb -I archive -gcv

I get the following error:

Starting the DB2 archive database instance
Unable to start database archive.  SQLCODE = -1092
arsdb:  Unable to start the DB2 archive database instance

Has anyone seen this error before or know a resoluton?
