MP Server / System Load Application Group
« on: March 05, 2018, 01:22:02 AM »
Hi All

Question about the System Load Application Group. It is optional. Can it be safely deleted from the admin client?

Kind regards,

Michel.

MP Server / Re: Upgrading CMoD 9.0.0.3 to 10.1.0

Hi Ken

Please look into this:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&uid=swg21432774

Gives you the exact steps to take.

I am also in the middle of upgrading icecap from 2.2 to 4.0. That is installing the new 4.0 code and then change the variables to point to the 4.0 installation. But that is on AIX , I do not know how this works on windows.

Good luck!

Michel.

MP Server / Issue with CMOD 10.1 and Content Collector for SAP 4.0
« on: February 27, 2018, 06:16:48 AM »
Hi all

While starting archpro process I get the following error:

CSS0326E: ArchPro is informed that OD agent 12779662 has failed in checking the archive servers.

In the tracefile I see:

clientod.c          [ 3185]: do_InitOD(): OnDemand DLL could not been loaded, because error 1 -> RC is set to CS_RC_OD_ERROR (-262)

Messages Guide gives no hint.

Anybody has an idea?

Kind regards,

Michel.

MP Server / CMOD 10.1 Cloud Storage
« on: February 16, 2018, 06:43:51 AM »
Hi All

Question about the new feature in CMOD 10.1 , cloud storage. Are there migration tools or something else available for moving all nodes in Spectrum Protect to this Cloud Storage?

Kind regards,

Michel.

I have migrated several TSM Servers from V5.5 to 6.1 and 7.1 without any issues. (also the one which I am using for CMOD)
The only issue was the duration of the migration.
If you TSM database is 100GB , count on duration for at least 12 hours to migrate the database from internal database to db2 database.

Kind regards.

Windows Client / Re: Issue with viewing PDFs
« on: November 03, 2017, 03:04:06 AM »
Thx all for responding.

Did yesterday a lot of tests and modifications on the AG and APP , and could not see any misconfiguration.

This morning I started fresh after a good night sleep :-) , I just created a complete new AG / APP instead of copy of an existing one (I forgot to mention that)
And now it works. I must have been something wrong , but now it works.

Kind regards,

Michel.

Windows Client / Issue with viewing PDFs
« on: November 02, 2017, 01:06:29 AM »
All

I have an issue with viewing PDFs.
PDF file is correctly archived to ondemand.

When viewing the file from the ondemand client it does not correctly show the pdf file. Instead it is showing rubbish.

My application is setup with Data Type user defined and Fileextension is PDF.
So I would expect it to start the adobe reader application.

When I look into :

IBM\Ondemand Client\Data directory I see it has created a file with pdf extension , so this is ok.
When I click on the file in the DATA Directory it is starting adobe reader and shows the document OK.

But in my situation it is showing rubbish in the ondemand client.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

Michel

MP Server / Backup DB2 of library server to TSM archiving server?
« on: September 13, 2017, 04:07:06 AM »
Hi All

Is anybody using this backup solution?

CMOD Library DB2 database backupped (including archive logs) to TSM Object server?

Or is this is really bad idea? Since this TSM Server is officially an archiving solution.
Does it breach any IBM support agreement or something else?

Kind regards,

Michel.

I'm fairly certain he means the 'backup storagepool' command in TSM.

TSM is an enterprise backup tool -- I can't imagine a world where one would back up one enterprise backup tool with another enterprise backup tool.  What would the restore process look like?!?!?  :)

I partially agree with you on this. Back 10 years ago , CMOD was sold by IBM as a blackbox. Onetime setup. This product was also placed at customers with no TSM at all. They are using Legato Networker for instance.

I absolutely agree with you that backup of the primary stgpool should by done by TSM , but i think the customers with no TSM knowledge at all would prefer other options . But with these options backup stgpool is no option....

michel.

Doesnt sound like your requirement is anything too out of the ordinary. I would run some metrics using the system log to see how much space you use. Export the 87 records into excel, and then come up with your daily use, then take a baseline. Times that by 30 for a month.

A common process I guess you could say would be to keep your documents in cache for X days, 10,15,30,60, etc.. For commonly used application groups for performance reasons. Then, after that threshold has been met..Use ARSMAINT to migrate that into TSM, which should be backed up nightly. Several installs I have worked on have had that kind of backup policy.

Also take into consideration your document types and compression when figuring out how much space you use. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish here--Could you elaborate?

The first cache file system contains special directories used by Content Manager OnDemand to locate objects from all cache file systems, is it possible to create more than one arscache that fulfills the function of the primary?

Hi jsquizz,
You say:
Use ARSMAINT to migrate that into TSM, which should be backed up nightly.

With backup , you mean copy primary pool to copypool or do you mean backup primary with backup software outside TSM? for instance Networker?

michel.

MP Server / backup procedure

Hi all,

Was wondering how you all make your backups of the OnDemand db2 database. (on AIX/Linux)
Is this online or offline? And are you using the arsdb command for this or do you use the db2 backup command?

Kind regards,

Michel.

MP Server / Re: copying part of AGs to new server
« on: June 29, 2017, 11:25:25 PM »
Goodday to you all.

Getting more and more to a solution for my problem of copying data from 1 server to another.

I would like to have a discussion on a scenario for copying a full cmod environment (CMOD 8.5.0.6 , TSM 7.1)

Last monday i made a fresh copy of the full cmod environment.  serverA to serverB

So serverB is in sync with CMOD DB2 and TSM until last monday.
ServerB is now active on another LPAR.

Now i want to synchronise serverA with serverB the coming 2 months. This is because (a part of) serverB will be in production on another site end of august.
Until end of august i should sync serverA with serverB so all filespaces on the TSM server will be in sync.

The plan is as follows:

Keep TSM serverA with TSM serverB in sync until 30-08.
On 30-08 i will make a full DB2 backup of CMOD DB2 serverA and restore this backup on CMOD DB2 serverB.

I know CMOD DB2 keeps a record of TSM filespaces and the CMOD documents. So when i restore the CMOD DB2 on CMOD serverB i have a complete working CMOD environment on ServerB (Both CMOD DB2 and TSM)

Am is missing something here or does this sound like a eligable approach.

Opinions and remarks greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Michel.

Thx norbert for this reply.

I like the arsadmin retrieve and arsload method.
But with what command/procedure i will export the part of the table and store it in the new server?

Kind regards,

Michel.

You can also use arsdoc get and arsload to perform this.

I think that would be way too sloooow; assuming you have copied the database (respective segment tables), the arsadmin retrieve and store is the right way to go. As hint, (As Alessandro suggested once to me) use multiple doc_names on the command line (e.g. 1000+ should not be an issue on Unix) will increase the export speed.
