z/OS Server / Upgrading to DB2 V9? Runstats Runstats Runstats
« on: July 19, 2010, 06:29:56 AM »
I've seen a couple cases recently where CMOD has performed much worse after no change to CMOD, but an upgrade to DB2 V9.

This is a quote:

Quote
it appears that running
runstats on our index data tables solved the problem. Even though there
were no deletes and no static binds, RUNSTATS was still necessary for
these tables to account for change in cardinality. ....
... Presumably this
was noticed when we migrated to version 9 because the optimization
algorithms required greater accuracy of the catalog statistics.

This APAR makes a huge difference.

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
arsdb command import option (-i) performance degradation occurs
due to frequency of commits. Even though the arsdb import code
itself does not issue explicit commits, code elsewhere in arsdb
turns on the ODBC auto-commit setting, a fact that the code to
do the import was not cognizant of. (The auto-commits don't
show up in an ODBC application trace.)

z/OS Server / Reference Chart - Admin Client to CMOD Level
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:35:06 AM »
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21392275

Note that if you're on CMOD 7.1.2.10 or 7.1.2.11, it's the same Admin Client as 8.4.0.x (pre-req of DB2 V8).

If you're on CMOD 7.1.2.13 or 7.1.2.14, it's the same Admin Client as 8.4.1.x (pre-req of DB2 V9).

z/OS Server / Performance Gain For arsload
« on: January 14, 2010, 01:01:02 PM »
Some arsload jobs have found using HEAPPOOLs rather than default storage usage helpful in reducing elapsed time and/or CPU consumption.

You set this for an individual arsload job by using the ENVAR LE runtime option, which can be set via a CEEOPTS DD statement.

 //CEEOPTS  DD *
 ENVAR('ARSMVS_ARSADMIN_LEOPTS=RPTSTG(ON),HEAPP(ON)')

This will cause a usage of HEAPPOOLs, which is a different heap management algorithm for smaller sized heap elements.

The only known downside is it *might* use a little more storage.

As always, no guarantees, test first, etc etc etc, but especially if you have a long running arsload it's worth a try.

This is good on both 7.1.2.x and 8.4.x.x.

I would appreciate it if anybody tries this that they give me some feedback.

z/OS Server / arsadm going away in the future - no date yet
« on: September 22, 2009, 01:54:36 PM »
The following technote caught my eye: 1403189

(go to www.ibm.com and paste that number into the search box)

The readme file for Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS V8.4.1 informed customers that the batch administration command ARSADM would be removed in a future release and suggested converting processes to use the ARSXML command. When will the ARSADM command be removed from Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS?

z/OS Server / Migrating to z/OS 1.10
« on: December 05, 2008, 08:58:21 AM »
If you get this:

ICM022E OAM Store Failed RC=C Reason=7418FCDB  -- which is a -805 missing dbrm or member or package.

The solution is to add a new required OAM member to the member list  - CBRIEDBS.

See the Migration manual:
