Title: CMOD 8.5 IS OUT!!!!
Post by: geoffwilde on February 11, 2011, 02:48:12 PM
any other Z customers with plans to upgrade?  We have some pre-reqs to apply before we can install.

Hi Geoff

I wanted to go for this right now, but the other guys wanted to wait a while due to other projects.
If anybody starts to upgrade, pls share your progress here

Regards
/H Carlberg

FYI - It's pretty common knowledge that DB2 V9 is a pre-req for CMOD 8.5, but I see that per the Program Directory z/OS 1.11 is also a pre-req.

Is anyone running v 8.5 on z/OS 1.12?  We're looking at migrating to 8.5 and we have a z/OS 1.12 migration schedule right in the middle of it.

we're going to hit apply later today in our tech environment. We'll be on z1.12 and CMOD 8.5.

There are a few new parms too, like the oam slow retrieve parm.

Great.  Thanks!   Good to know we won't be the alpha for this.  If you could, it would be appreciated if you could post any gotcha's that may pop up.  We're looking forward to this migration, some nice changes in this release.

verdict is still out, but it seems we might be the alpha on the Z platform

The only thing I know is that the CGI component of ODWEK seems to have a bug in Z, during the logout procedure some things are not cleanup correctly. It was working with 8.4.1, but not anymore with 8.5.
Except that, I haven't heard of anything strange between 8.4.X and 8.5 in Z at the moment.

Cheers,
Alessandro

well, we've cleaned up a bit. The readme will be changed to reflect some install steps, but we ran a program called ARSMIG85 which converts line feed commands. In our case, we did not need to run that, so we ran the program again to convert back.

Title: Ordering The Latest ACIF
Post by: Ed_Arnold on May 13, 2011, 10:36:39 AM
I have learned that ACIF no longer automatically ships with the H272850 Base FMID in 8.5.

It is free, but needs to be ordered separately out of the InfoPrint family in ShopzSeries.

The Program Directory for H272850 is incorrect and will be revised to say that ACIF must be ordered separately.

The latest ACIF is HQN4430.

We just hit a small snafu with the upgrade.  Nothing major but worth mentioning in the case someone else hits this problem.  When running the V8.5 arsdb command our lead technical was getting an exception error:

CEE3204S The system detected a protection exception (System Completion Code=0C4)
.
From entry point u_file_write_44_arsxh at compile unit offset +00000054
at entry offset +00000054 at address
10AFC424.

He could run the V8.4 arsdb command with no issues.
I found I was able to run the v8.5 arsdb command with no issues.
When checking ulimits we discovered he had:
address space     36928k

and I had:
address space     172264k

After upping his address space the arsdb command works fine.  Safe to guess that the new arsdb is taking up a bit more space out there.

Hi,
I'm new here.  We currently run CMOD 8.4.0 on a z/OS environment and I'd like to upgrade to 8.5 after as we finish our DB2 v9 upgrade.  My question is related to the upgrade documentation as can be seen in the README and other CMOD doc.  OnDemand for z/OS 8.4.0 is a prereq to upgrade to 8.5, but under the ODF topic, the ODF migration tool requires the ODF Administrator Tables be at the 8.4.1 level.  I don't see any information in the Install Guide, PSP, or anywhere else to get me to the 8.4.1 level.  Maybe I need to go to 8.4.1 first?  Also, I don't see anything about these tables changing in any of the 8.4.1 Upgrade/Installation documentation.
I appreciate any input or help locating this info in the documentation.
Thanks,
cj

we upgraded from8.4.0.3 to 8.5, but we did not have ODF.

Thanks.  We use ODF.  In the ODF 8.5 Install manual, Appendix B is Migrating from 8.4.1 to 8.5.  I would think it would be documented in the software requirements and not almost hidden.  I will open a pmr and verify with IBM that upgrading CMOD to 8.5 requires 8.4.1 in an environment with ODF.  Thanks, again.

We have ODF on 8.4.0.3 and we're upgrading to 8.5.  Since our ODF was a fairly small instance we decided it will be easier for us to just rebuild the ODF as a new install in 8.5 rather than trying to upgrade to 8.4 instance.

Anybody ordering CMOD 8.5 - note that ACIF is no longer automatically included.
