Symptoms seen with the Windows thick client with the 'Microsoft Print to PDF' option include sometimes creating zero length PDFs, sometimes just the graphics and no text, and occasionally leading to the client crashing.

A fix is available, KB5001648.

Report Indexing / ACIF V4.6 goes EoS 12-31-2022
« on: February 24, 2021, 09:18:29 AM »
On z/OS where ACIF is ordered separately, be sure to include V4.7 when you order CMOD V10.5.  :D

(As of this writing, no EoS date yet for CMOD 10.1.)

Tips and Tricks / z/OS - Using system symbols as indexing parameters
« on: November 06, 2020, 08:36:31 AM »
Environment:

JES2 MAS

Output can be ingested into CMOD from spool from any system in the MAS

Requirement:

Make the system that created the output part of the indexing parameters.

The hard way:

This information is available in fields reachable via exits

The easier way:

Exploit using symbols in JES in-stream data

Have the load job be the last step in the job that creates the output.

The ARSLOAD step parms:

//CMODSTEP EXEC PGM=ARSLOAD,REGION=0M,
//         PARM='/-V //DD:PARM'

.
.
The JCL contains this DD:

//PARM   DD DISP=SHR,DSN=IBM.ARS.PARMFILE

- In IBM.ARS.PARMFILE are these parms:

-h
 ARCHIVE
 -a
 BANK
 -g
 BANK
 -u
blahblah
 -p
 ********
 -v
 -s
 OBJINPT
 -j                  <===== These are the key parameters
 '//DD:J'            <=====
 /dev/null

The DD definition for J:

//J      DD *,SYMBOLS=EXECSYS
FIELD7='&SYSNAME'
INDEX2=X'E2E8E2D5C1D4C5',FIELD7,(TYPE=GROUP,BREAK=YES)
/*

Note the index on SYSNAME, which has been added as an index field in the AG definition.

Then when you run the load job you will see these messages indicating that the field added via the -j parm has been recognized by the indexer:

ARS5481I FIELD7='MVS222'
ARS5481I INDEX2=X'E2E8E2D5C1D4C5',FIELD7,(TYPE=GROUP,BREAK=YES)

After loading the data, when you view the application group data table, you will see the new index called SYSNAME appended as the last column:

SYSNAME
--------
MVS222

Per the MVS JCL Reference you could use any system symbol.

Tips and Tricks / Easy way to validate if it's well-formed AFP
« on: September 24, 2020, 12:00:56 PM »
One way is to run the arsafpd program against the AFP file.

Another way is use the AFP Plug-in for IE11 and view the file.

I just installed the AFP Plug-in on my PC, was super easy.

Downloaded binary from /where you have CMOD installed/www/plugins/afpplgin.exe

Ran the Install Shield which found IE11 automatically.

Then opened the AFP file using "Open With" IE11.

Tips and Tricks / ARSEXOAM Job - How To Trace
« on: September 01, 2020, 12:11:52 PM »
Use the following parameters to collect a trace from an ARSEXOAM job:

//STEP1    EXEC PGM=ARSEXOAM,REGION=0M
//STEPLIB  DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ARS.xxx.SARSLOAD
//         DD DISP=SHR,DSN=DB2.xxx.SDSNEXIT
//         DD DISP=SHR,DSN=DB2.xxx.SDSNLOAD
//         DD DISP=SHR,DSN=DB2.xxx.SDSNLOD2
//DSNAOINI DD PATH='/etc/ars/Vxxx/cli.ini'
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSOUT   DD SYSOUT=*
//ARSPARM  DD *
  odinstance=ARCHIVE
  oduser=<USERNAME>
  oduserpw=<PASSWORD>
  commitcnt=1
  unloadmax=1
  tracefile=/tmp/expir1.trc
  tracecomp=390EXP=15
/*

And then format the trace with arstfmt before attempting to view or sending to support.

z/OS Server / CMOD 10.5 Release Notes
« on: August 10, 2020, 11:51:57 AM »
This is an oldie that tripped up an install.

z/OS V2.3 is a pre-req, but also this very old LE APAR / PTF from 2017:

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/PI80298

CEE3559S External variable _StdStringExponentialAllocation...not found in DLL C128

Content Navigator / Chrome 84 tightening of TLS restriction
« on: July 22, 2020, 06:47:09 AM »
Received this from one of the ICN support people:

Chrome 84 released this month implemented a TLS 1.0 / 1.1 restriction that causes a block access to ICN deployments that use the legacy protocols

Instructions to switch to TLS 1.2 on a WAS deployment:

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-can-i-configure-websphere-application-server-ssl-protocol-use-tlsv12-only

ACIF on CMOD v10.5 may put out a new message APK511W.

See the Ricoh guide:

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLTBW_2.4.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r4.apku000/apskumst51.htm#apk511

The message is issued only if the one is using the ACIF parameter CONVERT=YES and the input file is line data with consecutive stream delimiters (which are considered “blank lines”).

In order to suppress the message and get everything working again, you need to use  CC=YES,DISCARD

Here are the options and behavior:

1) CONVERT=YES

cc=yes,discard  no msg and RC 0
cc=yes,fix      msg and RC 4 (default)
cc=yes,ignore   msg and RC 0
cc=yes,strict   msg and RC 16

2) CONVERT=NO

All options (discard, fix, ignore, strict) give no msg and RC 0.

This is when you're using this level of ACIF:

APK440I  ACIF AT PSFz470 HAS COMPLETED NORMALLY WITH RETURN CODE 0.
