Sounds like you need to ask the firewall team to allow your legitimate requests.  :)

MP Server / Re: How Can I Optimize ARSDOC GET
« on: January 24, 2024, 12:07:27 PM »
No matter what you do, if your documents are stored inside TSM, and on tape, it's going to take a while to get them back.

You could re-cache them (https://cmod.cloud/professionalservices/ibm-cmod-cache-optimization/) but the effort may not be worth it for only 170k documents.

General / Re: CMOD vs Content Manager
« on: January 24, 2024, 12:01:09 PM »
I haven't seen a CMv8 install for over a decade, but the major differences I remember are:

  • Workflow - the ability to create a record, and push a document through a variety of stages or processes / inboxes for action
  • Resource Managers - a little like Object servers, but they support replication of documents across servers for redundancy
  • Built almost entirely in DB2 - the last time I worked on CM (v8.4?) there were practically no application components, just functions built on top of DB2
  • Less scalability - CMOD can happily ingest millions of documents per day, and de-duplicate/compress them for massive storage savings.  CMv8 had less capacity on similar hardware.

I'm sure there are folks with more in-depth (and more current) knowledge.

Consider downloading the documentation and see if your employer has access to CMv8 for you to install/configure on a VM.

MP Server / Re: CMOD 10.5 License Type

To the best of my knowledge, this can only be changed during installation of the base level CMOD package, or during a FixPack install.

OD/WEK & JAVA API / Re: Stable permanent DocId links
« on: December 25, 2023, 06:58:19 PM »
Use Globally Unique IDentifiers (GUIDs) or SHA-256 hashes.

I've had this discussion with the developers/L3 many times, on behalf of many customers - DocIDs are only to be used inside a single, specific session, not for persistence.

I'm helping migrate a customer away from using the old (v7126) DocID's, and it's a nightmare, please please please, never use them like this.

Report Indexing / Re: Setting up a NON indexed TRUE AFP report
« on: November 29, 2023, 09:18:00 AM »
I don't see any FIELD/INDEX parameters, which I think is okay because you're using INDEXOBJ=ALL (which you have *twice* by the way)...

But what fields do you have defined in the App Group?  Just a date and that Doc Cntl?  (Fields shouldn't have spaces either...)

The other issue could be that the index data is stored in a NOP (no-op) instead of a TLE (tagged logical element).

It's been a while since I had to index AFP, but it seems like there's a lot going on here...

I'm not sure what you mean by 'True' AFP...  I know of two types of AFP - Fully Composed AFP, and Mixed Mode AFP.

Can you show the ACIF Parameters you're using, and the full output of your load command?

Are you receiving a .ind file with the AFP output that you're storing?  If you are, you don't need any ACIF indexing parameters, just load it with the Generic indexer.

Feels like a bug in ODF -- it's not establishing an SSL connection, even though it's configured for one.  On a UNIX system, I'd be running tcpdump to watch the conversation between the servers happening at the packet level, and try and figure out where it's going wrong -- but I don't know if this is possible on the i/Series.

General / Re: CMOD in the Cloud
« on: November 01, 2023, 12:13:41 PM »
As much as I don't like to step on IBM's toes, during two large migrations, I've made MANY recommendations to IBM on how to improve.  My single largest complaint has been turnover of their staff, leading to inconsistent service as workers whom you've established a relationship with move on and the replacements get up to speed.

The largest adjustment customers have had to make is that CMOD as a SaaS solution is a 'black box' and many of the things we're accustomed to doing for diagnostic or operational purposes are not possible.

MP Server / Re: Downloading Spectrum Protect from Passport Advantage

It should be available to you as one of the downloadable items.

Where is the process failing?  Or are you simply not able to find it?

"The cloud is just someone else's computer."

I've got several customers running CMOD in VMs, Cloud servers with dedicated hardware, cloud storage, and a mix of all of the above.

Migrations to the cloud are the overwhelming majority of my work now.  :)

MP Server / Re: OnDemand on Linux fails with Higher Version (CMOD 9.5)
« on: September 26, 2023, 03:06:00 PM »
I just did a patch to v10.5.0.7 today, no issues.  Thanks for the details on the fix though.  :)

If you were patching an existing server, you might have issues with your Java Path...
