For APAR PI67238 only the V9.0 PTF UI41055 introduced an error where the arsload time is one hour off from system time.

The V9.5 PTF is error-free.

WEBI interface / WEBi Support Ending September 30, 2017 for CMOD
« on: February 21, 2017, 10:10:37 AM »
First, if you look at this you'll see that the highest level of ODWEK that WEBi supports is V9.0:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27038530

There will be no separate EoS doc link for WEBi because WEBi was never sold as a separate license.  WEBi was a bundled license,
bundled w/ CM842/843x and CMOD85/90.

So when the bundles went EOS, WEBi too went EoS.

WEBi went EoS with CM V8.4.x which was 4/30/2016.

And WEBi will go EoS with CMOD V9.0 on 9/30/2017.

There is a chapter named Installing and Configuring viewing software in the V9.0 ODWEK Implementation Guide:

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPCD_9.0.0/com.ibm.ondemand.odwek.doc/ars5y00074.htm#webviewers

In V9.5, that chapter was updated/added to in 9.5 and is now "Installing and configuring viewing and transform software".

z/OS Server / 9.5.0.5 Rollup --- Significant Changes to Exits
« on: August 29, 2016, 07:36:53 AM »
As shops prepare to cross the 9.5.0.5 boundary, increased awareness of the changes to exits needs to be advertised.

In short, some exits will need to be updated to work with CMOD 9.5.0.5 and above.

APAR PI56881 is the 9.5.0.5 rollout.

Details on the exits affected are in this doc:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21978908

z/OS Server / z/OS 2.2 Upgrade Notes
« on: August 20, 2016, 01:16:26 PM »
My support group upgraded my CMOD test system from z/OS 2.1 -> z/OS 2.2.

Some items:

1. See the z/OS V2.2 Migration pub for what has to happen with OAM:

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/installation/

Bottom line is that you have to run the OAM bind jobs.

2. When the system was first turned over to me I couldn't telnet into OMVS.

Here's the response from support:

Quote
In z/OS 2.2, a new key file needs to be generated and placed in the /etc/ssh directory. OMVS command added to the Supporting Details for reference. I manually started SSHD and can now SSH via Putty.

OMVS command to generate new key file for z/OS 2.2 SSH:

ssh-keygen -t ecdsa -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key -N ""

I'll post more if I encounter anything else.

z/OS Server / 8.5 Release Notes
« on: July 13, 2016, 07:23:09 AM »
Yes, I know this thread is a little late to the party.

However, if you're still running CMOD V8.5 and upgrading to z/OS V2.2 be sure to have the following fix installed:

PM50889 / UK73787

z/OS Server / LE HEAP Tuning
« on: July 07, 2016, 11:18:24 AM »
Just had a question about tuning LE HEAP.  This is especially applicable to ODF shops but the same applies to ARSSOCKD or just about anything that uses LE HEAP.

The reference for this process is the LE Programming Guide.

For z/OS 2.1 you can find that here:

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/library/bkserv/v2r1pdf/#CEE
_____________________________________________________________________

The first thing to do is to add a line to the ARSSOCKD, ODF, or whatever you're trying to measure (started task or job) pointing to a PARMLIB member you created:

Example:  //CEEOPTS  DD DISP=SHR,DSN=USER1.PRIVATE.PARMLIB(LE$ODF90)

In member LE$ODF90 enter the following:

RPTOPTS(ON)

Start and stop the task or run the job.

You will now see in SYSOUT a listing of the default LE options in effect in SYSOUT.
____________________________________________________________________

Now add to the PARMLIB member what's in the LE tuning manual so your PARMLIB member will look like this:

RPTOPTS(ON),
RPTSTG(ON),
HEAPP(ON,8,10,32,10,128,10,256,10,1024,10,2048,10,3072,1,4096,1,
        8192,1,16384,1,32768,1,65536,1)

Here is sample output from RPTSTG(ON) from my system:

Suggested Percentages for current Cell Sizes:
  HEAPP(ON,
        8,1,32,11,128,8,256,1,1024,10,2048,13,3072,10,
        4096,1,8192,26,16384,1,32768,90,65536,1)
Suggested Cell Sizes:
  HEAPP(ON,
        24,,32,,40,,56,,64,,144,,
        216,,280,,848,,1048,,2080,,32768,)

Follow the directions in the manual referenced above, running this multiple times with representative workload.

Note:  as the manual says - these values will need to change as the workload changes.

The minimum requirements for CMOD V9.0 are listed in here:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=129&uid=swg27021524#ODOS

You'll note that under "supported operating system version" it says "z/OS Version 1.13"

It should say "z/OS Version 1.13 or later"

We're running V9.0 just fine on z/OS 2.1 and z/OS 2.2.  There are no current operating system dependencies for CMOD V9.0.

I'm working on getting the doc updated.

z/OS Server / Dynamic Exits
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:04:17 PM »
CMOD makes use of the Dynamic Exit Facility available in z/OS.

Unfortunately, every so often an error will occur and a dynamic exit will become disabled.

When that happens the exit has to be dynamically deleted and then dynamically re-added.

Example from a PROGxx on one of our test systems that's running 4 ARSSOCKD's each with its own security exit:

Quote
EXIT DELETE
    EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSECZ
EXIT DELETE
    EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSEZ1
EXIT DELETE
    EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSEZ2
EXIT DELETE
    EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARS4SECZ
EXIT ADD EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSEZ1,
     DSNAME=ARS.ARSV841.USERLOAD,JOBNAME=ARSSOCK1
EXIT ADD EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSEZ2,
     DSNAME=ARS.ARSV850.USERLOAD,JOBNAME=ARSSOCK2
EXIT ADD EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARSUSECZ,
     DSNAME=ARS.ARSV900.USERLOAD,JOBNAME=ARSSOCK3
EXIT ADD EXITNAME=ARS.SECURITY,MODNAME=ARS4SECZ,
     DSNAME=ARS.ARSV950.USERLOAD,JOBNAME=ARSSOC95

Unfortunately, the message for a dynamic exit becoming unavailable is an informational message and not an error message.

Also, it's usually just one line - very easy to miss.

I highly recommend having the automation group send a notification to the CMOD support team whenever the following message occurs:

   CSV430I   MODULE modname FOR EXIT exitname HAS BEEN MADE INACTIVE DUE TO ABEND=compcode REASON=rsn

Preferable, of course, would be if the automation can filter on exits that start with "ARS" or can have exitname be from a list of exits exploited by CMOD on that system.

Tips and Tricks / Config Parms
« on: June 07, 2016, 11:23:00 AM »
Since V8.5, CMOD has enabled rich function for national language support.

I had a question -

Does the ARS_LANGUAGE= parm in the config file do anything?

Answer:

The ARS_LANGUAGE parameter is still used on the System i platforms to "Change Language ID of job to match db".

And it can be used to choose a message library on MP and Z.
