CMoD user authentication options

I just joined a project that's already underway to replace an end of life product with CMoD. One possible issue I see right away is that it looks like CMoD uses LDAP authentication. We don't have that implemented and out area architect has no plans too and , as often happens, there's no budget set aside for that either. Has anyone else had this challenge and if so what was the solution(s) ? In terms of infrastructure we are running this off in house servers, as opposed to it being hosted, on Server 2008. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this challenge ?

LDAP is an option, not a requirement.

CMOD has it's own user database where you can add users, assign them to groups, and give them permissions to specific Application Groups / Folders.  LDAP support is a relatively recent addition.
