CMOD Updates
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:13:06 AM »
Our organization is currently running CMOD 9.5 on the Mainframe (Z/OS) and operate windows servers with ODWEK and AFP2PDF Transform.  We're moving to the IBM Content Navigator for viewing.  We currently use WEBi and even the OnDemand Viewer as well as the viewer in CICS.  Yes,  we realize that these are all deprecated viewers.   We are currently working on CMIS connections for external viewing and other application viewing/connections.  Our question is this:  Is there a centralized information area that would give us accurate, up-to-date information for releases, etc?  For example, is there a version 10.0 to be released soon?  We would like to see the latest Java, ODWEK's, Websphere releases that work with our current release of CMOD.  We just want to get a handle on the latest and greatest to keep us up-to-date.  Hope this all makes some sense.  Thanks in advance for any information!!

As far as I am concerned, you can use without problems the latest WAS 8.5.5.X release.

I suppose, but never had the chances to test it, that WAS 9.X will also work, BUT you must check with your IBM sales representative, if you are allowed to use WAS 9.x, since CMOD V9.5 is a bundle that contains WAS 8.5.X licenses, which might not include the license to use WAS 9.x. So you need to check that point with IBM in your specific case.

Concerning Java, you can use Java 8 with WAS 8.5.5.X, so you should be at the latest on that side.

Concerning ODWEK, since CMOD and ODWEK are since V9.5 together... as long as you install the latest CMOD, you have at the same time the latest ODWEK. (time of writing V9.5.0.7)

If you use the Content Navigator (ICN) then you will have the latest CMIS interface included in ICN installation. That will also help to keep you up-to-date.

About Version Next (v10, V9.6, V10.1, whatever the exact version will be), I have heard/read that it might come in a few month... but again, this is not sure...

Cheers,
Alessandro

A few quick ones...

IBM doesn't announce release dates for future versions.  It's generally worked on until it's done, then released.

ODUG is awesome because when that announcement happens, we normally set up an webinar with Greg, the lead architect of CMOD -- so everyone can have a chance to see the new features, and maybe even get a demo.

As for compatible versions, in every README file, towards the end of the section, there are the 'minimum' versions that CMOD was tested with.  It is expected that any version newer than the minimum should work, and if it doesn't, it will be supported and problems resolved through the PMR process.

Good luck!

Many thanks to both of you for responding.  As a CMOD Admin, I just want to stay up on any release that comes down the pipe.  I'm not saying we want to be on the bleeding edge by any stretch!  This user group has been awesome for me gaining knowledge about CMOD.  Since installing CMOD in 2003 on a mainframe, this application has grown exponentially!  It's a solid, reliable and dependable product that seems to be quite scalable and functional!  We use the PDF Indexer extensively now to load data from different applications.  It' quite impressive.  Nonetheless, you'll probably see me out her occasionally asking questions.  I appreciate it!!

Hey Steven.

FYI, without saying too much, we have a tentative date for the CMOD Update, but we can't announce it until after the next version of CMOD is officially released.  We're looking to have a presentation by Greg, and a partial demo by one of the folks who also presented at the CMOD Seminars hosted by IBM and various business partners last year.
