Application Delete Issue
« on: January 19, 2018, 11:14:24 AM »
Hi,  We were attempting to do some cleanup of unneeded applications from our system. We used the Admin Client to simply highlight them and do a delete.  When IBM did our conversion to CMOD years ago, they included many different applications under the same application group if they all had the same retention, indexing requirements..What we found is, if one of these applications was deleted that was also defined to an application group that had many other applications defined to it, after the deletion, on the folder itself, ALL the remaining applications on that application group were mapped to that folder of the application that was deleted..So as an example, Application Group called TEST had Applications A, B, C, D,E and F...We deleted Application A..Prior to deletion, on the folder for Application A, it would show the TEST application group and when you clicked on the Applications button it would show only the "A" application under "Applications in the Folder" box and the B, C, D, E and F applications were showing in the Applications box on the left..What we found was after Application A was deleted, it was removed from the Applications in the Folder box and the B, C, D, E and F
were moved over automatically..So anyone going into the Folder of Application A was now seeing ALL the reports for the other applications because they shared the same App Grp...In contacting IBM, they're response was that shouldn't happen and it must be a "Bug"...Curious of anyone else has ever seen this situation..We are running Admin Client 9.5.....But we also had a machine still running 8.4 and had the same issue,

Can you also specify what you expect the software to do when you delete Applications from AGs that contain multiple apps?  The 'end state' that you expect to see goes a long way in helping the developers fix it the way you want it to be fixed.  :)

Thanks.

Justin,

All we were looking to do is remove just the Application Definitions themselves that aren't being used anymore....I must add in some instances, we had multiple applications defined to a folder...As an example, Application ABC-V01, ABC-V02....They are defined to the same application group along with many other applications..So within the ABC FOLDER definition these 2 names were found in the "Applications in the Folder" box while any other Applications defined to that same application group were shown in the Applications box...If the delete was just done on the ABC-V01 definition, then the ABC-V02 remained in the "Applications in the Folder" box and no other applications defined to that same Application group moved over. BUT if we deleted BOTH ABC-V01 and ABC-V02 application definitions (essentially removing all applications from the "Applications in the Folder" Box) then Any/All remaining Application definition defined to that same application group were automatically moved from the "Applications" box to the "Applications in the Folder" box.  So when the users opened the ABC Folder, they were seeing data associated with those applications defined to the application group.  Obviously not a good thing.  All IBM indicated was this shouldn't occur and must be a "Bug"...I hope this makes sense....

Adding attached screen shot of example of folder...In this instance, IF we would delete just the MM6DY502-V01 application definition, then what we would see is ALL the remaining applications listed moved over automatically from the Applications side to the Applications in the folder side hence allowing anyone access the folder to now see all the associated data for these applications

Ah!  The image goes a long way to explaining the issue.  Yeah, that's very clearly a pretty terrible bug.

I'll keep an eye out for the next fixpack and post an update when it's released.

HAHA...As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words".....;-)...Should have thought of that first before typing out my confusing paragraph trying to explain it in words...Ya, only explanation from IBM was "That shouldn't happen" and "it's definitely a bug".....Our only resolution was to go into each folder (over 2600) and manually check to see if there was an issue...Took 3 of us the better part of one day to do that...The good news is, we only had 2 internal users reach out (prior to us even knowing there was a problem) indicating they were seeing other reports...Serves us right for trying to be proactive and do cleanup!...Appreciate any updates you hear about!...Take care Justin!
