ICN and Data Mining
« on: March 14, 2019, 07:16:16 AM »
We are currently using the RMS tool from Data Watch (aka Monarch) with ICN v2
After searching as usual, our users can right-click-> "mine with RMS"  and it integrates seamlessly.

We will be moving to ICN 3  & CMOD 10, and recently had a meeting with Data Watch folks where they said
the relationship with IBM was broken and they cannot supply a plug-in to the ICN API for ICN v3.
They suggested we write one ourselves, but I don't think we have the skills available to do that in-house.

Has anyone else come across this, and what options are available.
Are there plug-ins available from 3rd parties, or enthusiasts ?
Does IBM offer similar functionality using a different tool ?

Thanks in advance.

This seems really strange to me on several levels. Why can't they provide a plugin for V3 of ICN - especially since they already have one that works? From an architecture perspective not much has changed since V2 of ICN. I can't imagine their current plugin would need much changing. All the ICN API's are publicly documented, everything one needs to develop enhancements is out there.

There are a plenty of companies out there developing plugins that extend ICNs functionality. Most of the transform companies have plugins that can be invoked to convert data for example. I wouldn't think DW would need anything special from IBM to deliver their enhancement/plugin.

I suspect DataWatch being acquired by Altair may have something to do with it.
