Batch Retrieval of Tif Files using Arsdoc Get
« on: September 27, 2019, 08:33:12 AM »
I'm using the Arsdoc get to extract a batch of Tiff files.  (not using the -c parameter so each file is separate )
The Application I am extracting them from also defines that they are indeed TIFF files that are stored there.  See attached image
Using a UNC connection (via IBM i NetServer) I copy them to my local desktop and add the TIF extension to my file.
We are loading the documents using Kofax, it loads them into a single out file and creates our ind file for us....  The Code Page is set to 01252(see second attachment)

When I attempt to open them it errors saying "the file is damaged, corrupted, or is too large."  (they are not very large 113kb, 257kb, 242kb, etc.)

Here is the header information of the Index file that was created by the arsdoc get command:
COMMENT: OnDemand Generic Index File Format
COMMENT: This file has been generated by the arsdoc command

Any insight what step I missing would be greatly appreciated!

Your Kofax release script is using code page 1252 (Windows) but your generic index file is specifying code page 1208 (UTF-8). Not sure if that is causing your problem.
Code page mismatches generate a warning on load in my experience, but I've not seen this before. My CMOD application view parameters look identical to yours.

So many questions...  :)

Are the files being transferred in a binary format?  Is there some sort of translation happening under-the-covers when you pull them from the iSeries box?

Are you able to view these documents through the CMOD client?  If they're not displayed in CMOD natively, which viewer are you using?  Are these documents particularly old?  Some old TIFF encoding libraries had bugs that would affect display on various platforms.

The codepage should only be for the index data, and shouldn't matter unless you're using 'foreign' characters (accented / special characters).  Your data type is defined as TIFF, so codepages won't affect the data itself.

What's the goal here?  Are you pulling this data out to store it elsewhere, or just for access / display?

Thank you guys so much for your quick responses!
Well if I right click and "Copy Document Data To File..." it stores the document to a tif file perfectly, it also displays the document natively in the OnDemand Client V10.1 perfectly.

Thanks for the information regarding the code page, it makes sense that it is for the index file only.

I had to provide 28 documents that happend to be stored as tiffs, I did manually it so there is no rush to come up with a solution, I just am trying to figure it out in case I need to do it on a larger scale next time I have a plan to provide quicker service.

The Kofax IBM Content Manager OnDemand Release script must be converting it?

When you're extracting with arsdoc, how are you getting it to a PC to view?  Which utility are you using to view it?  When you save from the CMOD client, are you opening it with the same utility you're using when you download it from the server?

Are you using OnDemand on the iSeries?  If so, I had a similar error on one system.  I believe it was because the windows mapped drive to the IFS directory was not configured to convert from EBCDIC to ASCII.  I changed a checkbox on the iSeries Navigator for file conversion and it removed the error I was getting.  Let me know if I need to dig for more specific details.
