TSM question
« on: February 08, 2011, 11:37:42 PM »
Hi All,

I was wondering the following.
I am in the middle of documenting how to rebuild the CMOD environment in case of a disaster or human error.

My object server has a primary diskpool and a WORM TAPE copystgpool. Every night the WORM TAPE is updated from the primary diskpool.
Suppose i only have the WORM TAPE, because i keep it in a safe place every day. Is it possible with only the WORM TAPE to copy the content back to a diskpool and rebuilding the TSM database. Remember , i also do not have the TSM DB backup! I know this is a rare situation and probably will never happen because i , ofcourse, keep also the tsm db backup in a safe place.

thanks for your replies.

Michel.

Restores without the original TSM database are unsupported (ie, there is no command to rebuild a server from data tapes only, because it would lack policy information).  Make sure you have multiple viable copies of your TSM database.  Consider having a half-dozen (non-WORM) tapes where you can write TSM DB Backups, or back up the TSM database into a filesystem and have that backed up by your enterprise backup solution, and restored to your DR box at the time you need to recover.
